021gallery is presenting Fanhee Lee’s
solo exhibition 《FUGA》. This is
the artist’s second solo exhibition at 021gallery, following 《Argument》 in 2018.
Fanhee Lee is an artist who pursues a
plastic artist who aims for absolute formativeness, which is “to create objects
with a complete stance.” Lee’s such goal-setting naturally entails a process of
reflecting on objects(form), painting(materiality), plane(medium), and
plastic(production), creating and suggesting an objective totality of ‘complete
stance’ in these aspects.
As such, Lee finds the essential value
of visual art in plastic, brings sculptural motifs to the forefront, and unties
them through various mediums such as painting and sculpture. While 《Argument》 used diverse motifs through a
single medium (painting), 《FUGA》 repeatedly varies a single motif through a single medium(painting),
materializing his abstract sculpture.
This exhibition brings together new and
old works, including Kevlar, which depicts the original form of the motif, five
works that originated the motif, and four works that focus on the formative variation
of the motif by varying the form of the motif itself.
